Ananda Ranga Pillai was chief dubash to Dupleix — interpreter, broker, and the man through whom much of the town’s business passed. His private diary, kept from 1736 to 1761, remains the finest Indian account of French Pondichéry.

A King bed, a two-seater sofa and a single seat, a centre table, a study table and chair, pantry, wardrobe, a traditional fountain, a private Jacuzzi, and a street-facing balcony. The shower is attached. A room to sit, to write, and to look out on the street he knew.
